Over the last three weeks as a church, we have been going through John 4 verses 1-38. We have broken apart the story of the woman Jesus meets at the well. If you missed, I encourage you to go back and listen for all of the context around this story.
Verse 10 has stuck in my mind over the course of this series:
“Jesus answered, ‘if you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, ‘give me a drink,’ you would ask him, and he would give you living water.’”
We learned that this living water is not a physical water, but the life-giving power we find in Christ. He’s saying if you ask me, I will give you life.
This message was not one exclusive to the woman Jesus met at the well, it's an invitation to everyone. We see in Jeremiah 29:13,14b “you will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart. I will be found by you” God does not hide himself from us, He wants us to know Him.
I think about how much time I’ve spent in my life just wanting to know God more, or wanting to know what His plan is for me. I have wished I could have a moment where Jesus just met with me like he did with the woman at the well and made himself known to me. What I was neglecting at the time was being in the Word.
Just like Jesus met with the woman he desires for us to meet with Him in the Word. We get to know who God is through his Word. John 1:1 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” He has given us access to him, all we have to do is dig in.
Pastor Ryan said the first week of this series “God will give us as much of Him as we desire.” What would it look like for you to desire Him more? Do you settle for just enough of God, or are you thirsty for more?
“Everyone who drinks from this water will be thirsty again. But whoever drinks from the water I give him will never get thirsty again. In fact the water I give him will become a well of water springing up in him for eternal life.”
- John 4:13, 14
